WHAT I LEARNED FROM MY DENVER GRANDSONS

One of our great joys is having the grandsons stay over night on the weekend, something they have been doing since they were babies. Last weekend I realized how much I have learned from these young men. Our dinners have always been a time to enjoy a nice meal together while engaging in fascinating discussions on a myriad of topics. Paxton started talking about memes and Logan wanted us to know about   bacteriophages.
I was like…”WHAT are you talking about?” At that moment I had an epiphany with the realization I have probably learned WAY more from them over the years… than any wisdom I’ve imparted.

They know when someone (like their Papa with a knee on the mend) needs a little help around the house. These are precious times…”We have only this moment, sparkling like a star in our hand-and melting like a snowflake.” (Francis Bacon)

Paxton is prepared and confident before heading to a Congress Debate competition. He competed in last year’s national championships in Miami as a sophomore.

Don’t assume they won’t like something. We took Logan to an Afghan restaurant and he really liked it! He liked the Korean bakery next door even more.

They always want to know more about the world. We took Logan to an exhibit on Cuba at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science while Paxton was debating.

The boys obviously have great teachers in their parents and I include Marla in this mix. From the time Paxton was a baby, she took them almost every Sunday to visit Marla’s Mom who had Alzheimer’s. I am sure one of the seeds of their empathic nature originated from these early visits.

Marla taught them to make waffles from scratch. I think Logan is saying…”Mimi, how long will this take?”

And then they became teachers!

The Boys were “good listeners” at an early age, always enjoying the family stories of their great-grandmother, Gigi.

Marla often took them to Wesco Fabrics to help with our warehouse sales. This was their first exposure to work outside of the home, and we were very proud of them.

Logan helps out during a showroom event with Judi, our showroom manager.

Paxton and Marla assist at a showroom training event. Our designers always loved having the Boys around!

The Boys love being with all their cousins.

I discovered just how funny Paxton can be! He is a bit of a raconteur!

Traveling with Paxton & Logan is always an adventure. I find their observations and perspectives to be very fascinating.

They are patient listeners which is a rare trait indeed.

Lisa and Ray have done a marvelous job raising their boys! They are at the Vatican with my nephew Steven from Edinburgh.

Watching them grow and mature has been one of my very favorite pastimes and I have learned so much from them. Their elevated intellect is often something to behold! I have a feeling they both are on the cusp of great things. Stayed tuned.
