A FABULOUS HIKE WITH OUR GRANDSON HIGH ABOVE BOULDER

Logan stayed with us last week while his parents were moving Paxton into Boston College. We drove to Boulder looking for an interesting new hike and found it on Flagstaff Mountain at the Crown Rock Trailhead. We have never hiked that mountain before and it was a nice surprise!

The trails in the Boulder area are very well marked and maintained. Signs were posted about mask-wearing and maintaining 6′ distancing. Midweek mornings are always the best as there are fewer people hiking and picnicking.

Logan leads the way.

A fabulous day to explore a new area with no one around (so masks in the pocket!)

Logan does a little bouldering.

A very happy couple!

Heading back up the hill.

A quick break in the shade.

Logan probably loves hiking more than anyone in our family!

I always find it interesting to see what grows out of the rocks!

You can tell by my smile how much I’m enjoying hiking in Boulder!

We drove a little further up the mountain and parked in the “Realization Point” area. A short walk brought us to the “Stone Picnic Shelter.” During one of the foothills frequent summer thunderstorms the shelter would be perfect for a picnic with a fire!

What a fabulous view of Boulder and the red roofs of the University of Colorado campus!

The dream team….staying safe!

Passing lots of vacant picnic tables we came upon “Artist Point.” This would be the perfect spot (go in the morning) to just contemplate life as you view the majestic front range of the Rocky Mountains.

We are all alone near “Artist Point.”

A distant view of the 14,259′ Longs Peak.

“Sunrise Amphitheater” is a very popular venue for weddings.

Looking down at Chautauqua Park far below. This has been a family favorite for breakfast in their historic dining hall followed by a hike near the famous Flatirons.

Driving down the mountain we stopped at the famous Flagstaff House Restaurant to take a look. Marla and I have enjoyed wonderful evenings here with family and friends over the years and the views are simply sensational! Their 16,000 bottle wine cellar is amazing. Prices are elevated as this is a special occasion restaurant for dinner only!

We finished our great day in boulder with lunch at my favorite, Mustard’s Last Stand. Marla and I had hotdogs and Logan tried a bison burger. What a fabulous Friday!
