Our last trip to the Island of Guernsey was in 2022. We took our grandson Paxton on that trip, his first since he was a little over a year old. I’ve posted in the past about My sister Patty marrying her pen pal and moving to Guernsey. It’s a great story if you haven’t read it! This past summer in Europe had to include a visit to this enchanted island. We flew from London Gatwick on Aurigny Airline, which is owned by the States of Guernsey. I’ll take you on a little island visit with me.

The map shows how close Guernsey is to France. You can also take the Condor Ferry to/from Saint-Malo in France. The ferry takes 1 hour & 55 minutes.

We have always stayed at hotels on past trips but Marla and I wanted something larger so the whole family could get together. My nephew Steven and wife Karen were visiting from Edinburgh. We luckily found a large AIRBNB home rental on George Road. The famous French writer, Victor Hugo, lived in exile in a house down the street for 15 years. He wrote “Les Miserables” here.

Our rental was a Georgian style house from the 1860’s.

We loved this accomodation.

Marla greets Vic, my brother-in-law, in front of Christie’s Brasserie on the Pollet in St Peter Port.

Our dinner was superb and the view of the water was a nice bonus. My niece Suzanne and husband Chris are on the right. Our nephew, Steve, is behind them anf his wife Karen is front left.

We said goobye to Suzanne and Chris who were going to walk home. Steve was our driver for the entire stay which was extremely nice! Moore’s Hotel across the street was where my sister Patty took Marla and I for our first Cream tea. We LOVE Cream Teas!

Instead of driving back to the house with Steve, I decided to go on a speed walk and test my legs and map memory. The town is very quiet at night!

I walked past “Paint”, our favorite jewelry store in town.

I walked passed the “Constitution Steps.”

Heading up the steep “Mill Street.” Years ago it had vibrant retail and restaurants, and even some nice antique shops. Things change and not always for the better. I still explore the street every visit.

I love this painted wall mural near the top of Mill Street.

My inner compass was still working but I did have to use my map app a few times, navigating about 4 sets of steep staircases to get to George Road from this spot.

Visiting my sister’s grave, I lay down a stone of remembrance. She passed away in 2000. I really miss her!

Steve took this nice picture of us in town.

Lloyds Bank in St Peter Port was decorated with Pride flags for an upcoming Pride Parade celebration. Very impressive for an island of 64,000 people.

Steve and I in the backyard of our rental.

Karen and Marla look out toward town and the sea.

Our rental had a few fun amenities like a very nice gathering area.

Chris and Suzanne played table tennis. Vic was a competitive player years ago.

Steve plays a symphonic compostion he wrote. Both Steve, father Vic, and Suzanne are very accomplished muscians.

I put together a photo presentation of Patty. We were hoping to cast it on the TV, but had to show it on the iPad instead.

A dinner gathering at our rental.

Marla and I visited Castle Cornet for our first time, even after so many Guernsey visits over the years. It opened in 1206.

The cannons are ready!

Exploring the castle grounds.

The cannon is fired at noon every day.

The ancient castle is really fun to explore!

Our rental house was one of the white homes high on the ridge above. The huge 3 story home at the top sold for $27,000,000!

We all love dining at Da Nello! I love this place!
Guernsey is our enchanted island, with family we love, special places of wonder, and so many wonderful memories. We will return again soon! Thank you Suzanne, Chris, Steven, Karen, and Vic, for making our visit so memorable!
